Multi-source metering: EB, DG, solar and gas

Residents today use energy from several sources at very different prices: the grid, generator backup, rooftop solar and piped gas. Multi-source metering records each one and bills each fairly.

Key benefits

01
Every source, one accountGrid, generator, solar and gas usage is recorded separately and charged to the same wallet.
02
Separate tariffsEach source is charged at its own rate, deducted from the same wallet.
03
Backup load limitA lower sanctioned load on generator protects the DG set from overload.
04
Clear for residentsDaily EB and DG usage and cost are shown in the resident app.
Overview

When the grid fails and the society generator starts, the meter detects the change of source on its own and records units against DG instead of EB. Each source has its own tariff and its own load limit, so a flat can be allowed a smaller load on backup than on the grid.

Residents see grid and generator usage side by side in the app, and the society gets a clear record of how much backup power was supplied and to whom.

Used in

  • Townships and societies with DG backup
  • Commercial complexes with shared generators
  • Mixed-use developments
How it works
  • Automatic detection of the active source
  • Separate registers for EB, DG, solar and gas
  • Per-source tariffs and sanctioned load
  • Works with Syctech ACCL changeover units

Questions and answers

Multi-source metering: EB, DG, solar and gas: common questions

What is multi-source energy metering?

Multi-source metering records energy from each supply source separately: grid (EB), generator (DG), solar and gas. Each source has its own tariff, so residents pay the right price for what they actually used.

How does the meter know when the generator is running?

It detects the change of source automatically. When the grid fails and the generator starts, units are recorded against DG; when grid power returns, recording switches back to EB.

Can a flat have a lower load limit on generator backup?

Yes. Each source has its own sanctioned load, so a flat can be allowed a smaller load on DG than on the grid, which protects the generator from overload.

Are all sources charged from one wallet?

Yes. Usage from every source is charged at its own rate to the same prepaid wallet, and residents see EB and DG usage and cost in the app.
